Skeptics love to ask this question but perhaps the better question ought to be, “how can a loving God NOT send people to Hell?”
Can a loving parent ignore abuse harming their child by someone hell-bent on hurting them? Of course not! How much more should our loving Father, whose very being is absolute love (1 Jn. 4:8), punish evil doers viciously attacking His beloved children? But there’s another problem and I’ll address this soon.
Hell Was Prepared for the Devil and His Angels
The enemy of God’s people is Satan. Jesus said of this fallen angel: “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth… for he is a liar and the father of it” (Jn. 8:44).
Satan brought deception, lies and murder to our humanity seeking to kill and devour us (1 Pet. 5:8)! Jesus tells us this eternal hell fire was prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt. 25:41) bringing God’s perfect justice against evil once and for all.
Yet the problem is, we all have rebelled against God as well, becoming His enemy and following in the footsteps of Satan, thereby deserving of God’s just wrath and punishment as well (Rom. 3:23, Col. 1:21, Eph. 2:3). Yet our loving Father was not done with us!
We Deserve Hell, God Gives Us Grace
Most people wondering how a loving God could send someone to hell believe God is unfair while not realizing the gift of Grace bestowed toward us is completely undeserved!
Since God is a just, holy and loving God, He had to address the problem of evil that entered into His creation to destroy it, bringing death upon humanity:
ROMANS 6:23
“The wages of sin is Death.”
Death will claim every human being who has ever been born but God did not leave us in our death sentence, declaring: “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (ROMANS 6:23)
If God had simply allowed justice to play out, He would have to allow us all to enter a place He never intended us to go, since we all have sinned (Rom. 3:23).
But JOHN 3:16 declares, “Because God so loved the world, He GAVE His only begotten Son [Jesus], that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This is the gracious nature of God’s love: while we deserve to be punished for our evil, following in the footsteps of Satan, God bestows on us His free gift of Grace because Jesus willingly bore our sins and penalty, though He Himself never sinned at all:
2 CORINTHIANS 5:21
“God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
1 PETER 2:22
“He committed no sin and no deceit was found in His mouth”
God is holy and just and we have sinned, deserving His judgment. But the astounding fact remains: the Just Judge Himself loved sinners so much, He provides us salvation at His own sacrifice. So you now have a choice to make…
Where Will You Spend Eternity?
The question is not ‘how can a loving God send me to hell’ but rather, ‘will I accept the free gift of salvation and spend eternity with Him?’ You merely need to believe upon Him to receive His free gift of Grace, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name…” (Jn. 1:12).
Nobody has to perish; Christ has made reconciliation available to us (2 Cor. 5:19–20). So where will you spend eternity?
With God or without Him?
Heaven or Hell?
Jesus, the sinless, perfect Son of God, paid the price for sin on our behalf when He died on the cross, He was buried and rose from the grave never to die again (1 Cor. 15:3-4)!
Why does the Name of Jesus cause such division and hatred among those who do not know Him? His name is used as a curse word; His name causes people to hate and persecute Christians throughout the world. This is a small reminder that humanity is embroiled in a spiritual war with eternal consequences.
Buddha, Muhammad, Krishna, are not curse words, and yet they remain dead. However, Jesus is alive and well, who was historically dead and seen by witnesses after His resurrection (1 Cor. 15:1-5); He has appeared to many in dreams and visions, telling people to come to Him because time is short before He returns in Judgment, Power and Great Glory.
So come to Him now—believe in Jesus Christ and receive His free gift of eternal life. His blood washes away your sins (Rev. 1:5). Begin to follow your Savior who gave Himself for you, for you do not know what tomorrow will bring (Jas. 4:14), today is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2)!
Do not delay!
